Flanagan Helped Push Bill In SenateBOSTON -- A new law aimed at cracking down on "doctor shopping" by more closely monitoring prescription drug use was signed by Gov. Deval Patrick Friday in the state's latest effort to combat drug abuse. The state's prescription monitoring program will be expanded under the bill to track the use of all prescription medication through an online database as public-health officials try to dent the growing problem of drug abuse that impacts the lives of thousands of families each year. "I want to thank our legislative and private partners for their dedication and advocacy on behalf of the men and women who wrestle with substance abuse every day," Patrick said at a bill signing ceremony in his office. "This law will help us provide those individuals with the supports they need." |
