Jennifer Flanagan

State Senator Jennifer L. Flanagan is a lifelong resident of Leominster. Senator Flanagan graduated from Leominster High School in 1993. She then went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and from Fitchburg State College in 2004 with a Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling.

Senator Flanagan began working in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1995 as a Legislative Aide, then as Chief of Staff on four legislative committees. In 2004, she was elected to represent the 4th Worcester District in the House of Representatives. She was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate in September of 2008 and was sworn in the first week of January 2009.

She is currently serving as the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Mental Health and Substance Abuse and as the Vice-Chairman of the Joint Committee on Transportation. She is also a member of the Joint Committee on Public Health, the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture and the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities.

Senator Flanagan remains active in the community serving on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Massachusetts, Project Apples, the Spanish American Center, the Montachusett Addiction Council, Junior Achievement of Central Massachusetts, Community Health Connections Family Health Center, and the Leominster Education Foundation. She is an honorary board member of the Garder Community Action Committee and Leominster’s Allencrest Tutoring Center. She also volunteers as a teacher for the Junior Achievement educational program.
